What impressed me first about Karlyn was her internationally inspired style, but after finding out she is a single-mom, my hat went off to her. I hear from mothers everyday that making “me” time before your children are school age is a near impossible task unless you have full-time help or a very hands-on spouse. As a mother of a very active two-year-old, I find making time for a shower challenging on most days… For Karlyn she’s made herself a priority saying, “I start with the belief that maintaining my own health and energy level is part of being a good parent.” Those words will stay with me!
Home: New York City, USA
Children: 10-month-old daughter, Sienna
Occupation: Karlyn is a management consultant with the Boston Consulting Group. She advises corporate clients on a range of business strategy and operations topics. She has a background in international development in Africa and Latin America and ultimately plans to apply her business skills back in the non-profit sector.
How does she look so darn good?
As a single mom with a demanding job, Karlyn says it’s not easy to prioritize looking good. However, thanks to an attitude of relentless prioritization along with the amazing support of her parents, sister and friends, she manages to escape for a run or a Pilates class. She credits Pilates for restoring her muscle tone following the birth of her daughter.
What’s she wearing?
Dress: Barney’s Co-op
Shoes: Diane Von Furstenburg
Belt: Kudra studios
Jewelry: Traditional Senegalese earrings, picked up in a little shop in Dakar
“I spent my high school years in Paris and my style still carries a touch of European influence. I tend to err on the formal side and favor lots of black. But my American origins, as well as time in Africa and Latin America mean I love to mix color and prints as well as bold jewelry with an ethnic flavor into otherwise subtle, black or
earth-toned outfits. Most importantly, I aim for versatility in my wardrobe. I love shirts or dresses that can be paired with pumps and slacks or a blazer in the office but can still give me just a little edge when paired with jeans and the right accessories for the weekend.” – Karlyn Adams
