StyleMama: Jenny Chen Lee – The Value of Family

I’m impressed that this week’s StyleMama, Jenny Chen Lee, has time to dress in the morning. Jenny has two kids but does 4 different school pick-ups and drop-offs everyday, which she counts as a blessing. Jenny’s two sisters and mother all live within a 1-mile radius of each other, which didn’t happen by accident. She picks up the school runs for her sisters, who both work full-time and they support Jenny by looking after her kids. She says while they don’t live together, they co-mingle so much they really act as one family unit. “I grew up with very traditional Chinese parents, who made huge sacrifices for me and my siblings, and my sisters and I continue that tradition, whether it means taking care of each other’s children or providing emotional and social support to each other.” Jenny also makes it a priority to pass these values on to her children, ensuring her boys learn to honor and hold sacred family bonds.

Hometown: Brooklyn, New York

Age: 38

Children: 2 boys, 4 & 6

Occupation: Stay-at-home Mom and Aunt

How does she look so darn good?

Jenny must be blessed with good genes as she doesn’t exercise on a regular basis or diet. She does believe in making healthy eating choices and portion control. She says the two strategies allow her to occasionally eat things that are not always so good for her body. Her rule is “do not cheat and eat something bad unless you love it and it tastes awesome!”  She says she’d rather eat 2 bites of her favorite high calorie muffin than a tasteless low-fat one.

What is she wearing?

Cashmere Ivory Tank: Club Monaco

Sweater Vest:  Club Monaco

Scarf:  Club Monaco

Black Tights: Hue

Suede Boots: Michael Kors

Necklace: House of Harlow

Enamel Bangles: Hermes

Jade bangle from Taiwan: Gift from mother in law

Her Style:

“My style is classy conservative, with an edgy twist.  I believe you can not go wrong investing in well made designer shoes and bags.  You can make or break an outfit with these essential accessories.  Always invest in classic basics with clean lines.  As trends come and go so quickly, most moms find it hard to invest in a new wardrobe each season. If you stick with well made essentials, you could use accessories: jewelry, belts, scarves to keep up with fashion.” – Jenny Chen Lee
