RM StyleMama: Jennifer Barrs – Foodie and Fashionista

It’s hard to believe this glamorous mama spends most of her days in a commercial kitchen, sweating over hot pots and steaming trays… Jennifer Barrs cleans up quite nicely.

Current home: Toronto, Ontario, Canada (since December 2009)
Born and raised in Los Angeles, California
Age: 38
Children: 2 boys, ages 5 and 8
Occupation: Catering Cook at Whole Foods Market
How does she look so darn good? Jennifer walks everyday.  Since moving to Toronto from LA, one of the biggest changes in her life (besides the weather!) is no longer relying on her car for her primary mode of transport. Her and her family now make good use of Toronto’s public transit  system or walking. She says that getting around snowy streets in a a heavy coat and snow boots is a workout in itself!  Her job working in a commercial kitchen is also very physical, giving her a good workout. And despite being around food all day, she eats well for the most part – mostly fruits and veggies. She veers away from fast food, except for the occasional In-n-Out Burger when she’s back in California for a visit.
What is she wearing?
Dress:  bordeaux (from Anthropologie)
Shoes:  Stuart Weitzman
Handbag:  Francesco Biasia
Accessories:  Swatch watch, Nooni Handbags studded leather bracelet, David Yurman silver cuff, Rayban sunglasses
My style: “I spend most of my days in my chef’s coat, pants, and apron.  I enjoy working in a kitchen, but it feels so nice to get out of my work clothes!   I usually do not follow trends and tend to wear things which make me feel good and comfortable.  I love finding “one of a kind”-type pieces.  One of my favourite boutiques in Toronto is Preloved.  They take pieces of used clothing and hand-cut and hand-sew them into “new” sweaters, jackets, blouses, dresses, etc.  I especially love their sweaters!” - Jennifer Barrs
