RM StyleMama: It Doesn’t Matter What You’re Wearing

It’s hard to get past Heather Drake’s good looks, but she is probably one of the most grounded and least self-absorbed women I know.  She’s a former StyleMama and I asked if she’d be willing to be featured again as she not only has a great sense of style, but a wonderful spirit. Her mantra to me was that it doesn’t matter what you put on, because your beauty is determined by how you feel about yourself on the inside, specifically your happiness. “When everyone is happy and thriving in my family, I am happy and I wear it on my face.  And feeling beautiful, centered and confident will carry you farther in life, rather than a great sweater or pair of shoes,” she says. * Clothing and styling provided by Courtnay Page

Children: 12-year-old boy & 11-year-old boy/girl twins

She’s a full-time mom and self proclaimed CEO of the Drake household, handling everything from housework to homework and bills to baseball.  Needing something all her own, however, Heather just recently began to share some of her inspirational poems and writings.  ”Right now is a really exciting time in my life because my children are thriving, my husband is happy and my home and life are in a manageable state of chaos.”  Heather feels like the time is finally right and she can now take a minute and tap into her creative side by writing poetry.  ”If something comes from any of my writing, then great, but for now just getting the words out of my head and onto the screen is huge.  It makes me feel like I just got a huge promotion in the job of living.” You can check out Heather’s musings at www.facebook.com/heatherdrakewords.

How does she look so damn good?
When her children were small, Heather walked her threesome in a triple jogger for two hours everyday. Now that they are all in school, she works out 4-5 times a week. She loves to work out at CATZ (Competitive Athletic Training Zone) and to participate in barre and yoga classes.  ”Exercise is what helps me combat stress and improves my overall mood.  It makes me such a better mother and wife for sure.”  She also is playing volleyball at least once a week, both indoor and beach, as well as playing in local leagues and tournaments.  ”I have always loved competing and participating in sports, but to be playing competitively at this age is so rewarding and super fun! It makes me feel confident and satisfied and as a result I am happier and feel more beautiful both inside and out.”

Her Style:

“I draw inspiration from two fantastic local boutiques, Therapy and E.G. Page.  Courtnay Page (owner and friend) has a great eye and takes my tom-boy style to the next level by adding a feminine twist with soft pieces and delicate jewelry. I’m most comfortable in my jeans, a T shirt, a fun jacket or cardigan and booties.” – Heather Drake
