This week’s StyleMama, Carol Carimi Acutt, is hoping to convince more moms to start urban gardens. She says knowing where your food comes from is empowering as it’s a guarantee that you’re not eating any genetically modified organisms (GMOs) or pesticides. Carol adds, “Getting my 4 year old to eat raw greens is a challenge, but when it’s growing in our garden she likes to pick arugula and eat it right out of the garden box.” Carol has made it easy for us to kick start our own organic urban container garden with a new website, UrbanFig.com – check it out!
Hometown: Grew up in New Orleans, lived in Colorado and then moved to Los Angeles.
Children: 2 kids -4 years and 15 months
Occupation: Founder of UrbanFig.com
Carol started growing vegetables two years ago and became totally addicted. However, she found getting an organic garden started a little overwhelming as there were so many different methods and ways to start. She decided to streamline the process to make it easy and fun for anyone to give it try with the launch of her fun and educational website. You can also buy most of your organic supplies at UrbanFig.com.
How does she look so darn good?
Carol has been practicing yoga for 17 years and also teaches on occasion. She tries to maintain a healthy diet by eating a lot of vegetables and raw foods, although she’s not a vegetarian.
What is she wearing?
Dress: Forever 21
Necklace: Hand-blown glass jewelry from Trace Palmer at KarmaKulture.com
“I have a variety of styles from funky to classic. My staple tends to be blue jeans, a cute top, and sandals. But I’m always on the look out for a funky piece of jewelry or shoes to pair with my outfits.”
