RM Style Mama: Jennifer Parmelee – Calm Your Nervous System

I feel like I have a million thoughts circling my head from writing my next post to doing my accounting to baking 50 cupcakes for an event. How do I manage my crazy life? This week’s StyleMama, Jennifer Parmelee, says moms like me need to find an activity that calms the nervous system. While Jennifer meditates and practices yoga daily, she says that some of us may be too far gone to commit to yoga and mediation right away. She says the best thing to do is to give yourself at least 10-15 minutes a day to have some “me” time.  It can be writing in a journal, splashing paint on a canvas, or just sitting down and concentrating on your breathing. “Being compassionate to yourself on a daily basis will help center you and bring you back to a point where you can focus on your breath,” says Jennifer.

Jennifer practices clean living, which involves eating vegetarian and juicing, as well as regularly practicing meditation and yoga. Jennifer says she also follows Chinese medicine and uses Chinese herbs as part of her regime.  She stresses that part of her overall wellness is also attributed to the community of women she surrounds herself with. She says it’s important for mothers to have other women to look to for support, inspiration, and friendship. “Creating a support network of friends is just as essential to your overall well-being.”
