RM Dinner Club – Killer Thanksgiving Sides!

While Thanksgiving tends to center around the turkey, I like to focus on the sides.  I think great sides can make or break your dinner as much as an over-cooked turkey.  Here are a few veggie dishes that have gotten rave reviews from friends, readers, and online sites. If you have one that you think is a hit, please post it in the comments section.

Gourmet Sweet Potato Classic by AllRecipe.comRebelMom Pick!
I have not tried this recipe, but when 55,000 people save it and another 1200 peeps give it 5 stars you know you need to give it a try.

Spinach Gratin by Ina Garten – Reader Pick!
My friend Deb who is a remarkable cook said this is very rich but oh so good!

Warm Red Cabbage by Real Simple – RebelMom Pick!
My roommate in university made this for Canadian Thanksgiving and it was absolutely divine. The vinegar gives it just the right amount of tang and the bacon adds a little smokiness to it.

Shredded Brussel Sprouts by Andrew F. from Facebook – Reader Pick!
Chop them fine, toss in olive oil, parmesan cheese, toasted de skinned hazelnuts, salt and pepper. Roast in 350 for 20 min, done!

Prize Winning Stuffing with Cranberry and Pecans by Mary Bilyeu
Again, another recipe that I haven’t tried but saw it listed on several sites, including Rachel Ray’s. The woman who created it won a cooking contest, which is why it has been widely circulated.

Broccoli Sauteed in Olive Oil by Cara C. from Facebook – Reader Pick!
Broccoli sauted in olive oil, salt, pepper and garlic powder (or crushed) and bread crumbs! Also serve with angel hair pasta and sliced black olives…yumm! Thanks to Cara (& Pete) parents to Abigail age 7 and Cecilia age 3, east Greenwich, RI

Sweet Roasted Rosemary Acorn Squash by Pioneer Woman
The pioneer woman’s recipes are always fabulous. I can’t bare to use an entire stick of butter or 1/2 cup sugar in my version (I use half of the recommended amount and melt beforehand on the stove), but I’m sure hers tastes a lot better. I also add a couple of tablespoons of orange juice and zest a quarter of an orange. This dish absolutely rocks!
