Just For Me: Mommy-Friendly Beachwear

Do you embrace the warm weather or dread the thought of having to wear a bathing suit? Well, here are a few beach wear suggestions that are mommy-friendly and will give you a bit of glam for the summer season!

The Mommy Suit

Okay, so the woman in this photo does not look like she’s had two kids and struggles to get to the gym, but this is the perfect mommy bathing suit! The Miraclesuit from Garnett Hill has all-over body control and underwire cups. You can wear this over the shoulder if you are body surfing with the kids, or like a bandeau if you are sipping cocktails with your friends on the beach.  The Miracle Suit comes in a variety of styles and shades. Price $124

Tunic or Beach Cover?

I had a similar shirt last summer, which was great for the beach or over a pair of linen pants. The Dale Shirt by Calypso St. Barth is tres chic !  It also travels well and wears well. You can twist to pack and it dries quickly, allowing you to go directly from the beach to dinner.  Price $125  * Note: The purple Dale Shirt is now out of stock, but other colors are available.

The Carry-All Tote

My beach bag is usually filled with books, toys, water, sunscreen, snacks, and the list goes on…. This Straw Tote with Sequins from Gap is the ideal bag to cram in a lot of stuff, but the hint of sequins gives it a little flair. Price $50

The Full-Coverage Hat

I’ve been rather unconcerned about sun damage until I saw my skin in bright fluorescent light and realized how much my skin has aged from our 4 year stint in the Caribbean. It wasn’t the Caribbean’s fault, but my own for not wearing sunscreen or a hat 90% of the time. This large straw hat from JCrew folds well into your beach bag and gives you full coverage around your face.  Invest in a hat! Price $37

Extra Sun Protection

A Florida dermatologist recommended using DCL (Dermatologic Cosmetic Laboratories) Super Sheer Sunscreen SPF 50+ everyday on my face. What I like about this sunscreen is that it goes on light and doesn’t have a chalky quality. I wear this under my make-up and it’s not cakey. It’s also paba free and fragrance free. Price $28

If you are looking for a moisturizer and sunscreen combined, my mother-in-law who works for a plastic surgeon recommends La Roche-Posay Anthelios SX.  Most magazine beauty editors have given this moisturizer two thumbs up. This is great for everyday use as well!

    Love all your comments! Mom

Great suggestions that all of us could use. I agree with Barbara (your mother-in-law, my cousin) about the moisterizer (LaRoche -Posay). It is the only moisterizer I have found that does the trick but is not greasy. Love it.

Great ideas Thara. Very practical. Keep up the good work! Padman Pillai

    Great ideas!
Last weekend, I bought some fab Trina Turk cover ups (US$139) that instantly glam up any beach outfit – perfectly decent to shop and dine in too. There is a wonderful selection of prints and bright colours to choose from – check them out if you can.
