The party is over in New Orleans following a week of Mardi Gras activities, but I can’t help thinking about the great food all the tourists were enjoying during the festivities. Bring a little New Orleans sass and spice into your kitchen with three of my favorite southern recipes.
Citrus Marinated Shrimp with Louis Sauce – MyRecipes.com
This is such a delicious recipe that I can eat the entire serving by myself. I add a little salt and pepper and celery seed to the shrimp. I make my own Louis Sauce, which consists of mayo, Asian srichacha, lemon juice, rice vinegar, and a pinch of sugar. Serve this up at your next party on a platter decorated with star fruit.
Chicken Gumbo – MarthaStewart.com
The first time I made chicken gumbo it took about 4 hrs to make. This one is relatively quick and simple.
Buttermilk Beignets – FineCooking.com
Associating Beignets with donuts is sacrilege. Unlike donuts, beignets are delicate yeasty bread sweetened with a hint of icing sugar. I can’t find my original recipe but this looks pretty similar. I love dipping them in my coffee or serving them half-dipped in chocolate with vanilla ice cream or brandied whip cream – yumm!
